Mayor Kathleen De Rosa and members of the City Council will announce at the February 23, 2011 City Council meeting that Cathedral City was named one of America’s Top 10 Bargain Retirement Spots by US News & World Report.

US News & World Report assessed affordable home prices and accessibility to activities for retirement living throughout the US.

Cathedral City was the only city ranked in California and, other than Portland, Oregon and Tucson, Arizona, the only City in the Western United States to make the list.

The  Top 10 Bargain Retirement Spots (in no particular order) are: Portland, OR; Tallahassee, FL; Wake Forest, NC; Cathedral City, CA; Wahiawa, HI; Weatherford, Texas; Dover, DE; Sycamore, IL; and St. Charles, MD.

The article, posted on US News & World Report’s website mentions Cathedral City’s affordable home prices, warm climate, proximity to Desert attractions and outdoor activities like golf.

“This is great news,” said Mayor Kathleen J. De Rosa. “Cathedral City is an affordable gem right here in the midst of the Coachella Valley – not to mention the Western United States.”
